Frequently Asked Questions

Maybe you’ve been asking yourself this question because you’re not necessarily “falling apart” but you’re tired of carrying everything on your own. Therapy can be a space to slow down, make sense of what you’ve been carrying, and reconnect with yourself beyond the expectations, responsibilities, and family roles you’ve been holding for everyone else. You don’t have to be in crisis to start therapy. You might be navigating anxiety, burnout, relationship or family stress, grief, cultural expectations, people-pleasing, perfectionism, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself.
At Root & Bloom Counseling, therapy is an opportunity to understand yourself more deeply, heal what needs tending to, and grow into a life that feels more aligned with who you are, not just who you’ve been expected to be.
If something in you is saying, “I don’t know if I can keep doing things this way,” that may be enough reason to begin!

During a consultation call, we will talk for 15 minutes about your reasons for seeking therapy and what you are looking for in a therapist. This is your opportunity to ask questions about the process, anything you want to know about me, and next steps.

Root & Bloom Counseling is a private-pay practice and does not currently accept or bill insurance directly.
I value creating a therapeutic experience centered around your privacy, your autonomy, and the quality of your care rather than allowing an insurance company to determine the parameters of your treatment.
Filing mental health counseling through insurance requires therapists to assign a diagnosis to your permanent medical record within the first 50 minute appointment. It also may often involve the insurance company reviewing the notes from your sessions so that an insurance representative can determine whether or not you are benefiting from therapy, and consequently whether they will continue to cover your therapy. This may result in the client receiving a surprise bill to pay for sessions that your insurance company decided not to cover after all.
Choosing private-pay care allows you to have greater control over how your care is documented and who receives information about your treatment. It can also provide greater flexibility in determining what we focus on in therapy without having to meet an insurer’s requirements for ongoing coverage.
Your mental health journey is deeply personal. You deserve a space where the focus stays on you, not on whether your insurance company believes your care is medically necessary.
If you have out-of-network benefits, you may be able to submit a superbill to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan, and Root & Bloom Counseling cannot guarantee reimbursement.

Therapy at Root & Bloom Counseling is collaborative, compassionate, and individualized to you. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to healing. Together, we’ll explore what’s bringing you to therapy, identify patterns that may be keeping you feeling stuck, and develop tools that support meaningful change. My approach is integrative, evidence-based, and culturally responsive, with space for both where you are now and where you want to go.

The therapeutic relationship matters. You should feel respected, heard, and comfortable being honest about the parts of yourself that may be difficult to talk about. Root & Bloom Counseling may be a good fit if you’re ready to move beyond simply managing everything and want to better understand why you feel the way you do, how your experiences have shaped you, and what it could look like to live differently.
And if we aren’t the right fit, that’s okay too! Finding a therapist you feel comfortable with is an important part of the process.

Root & Bloom Counseling was created with the belief that healing is not about becoming someone new. It’s about becoming more fully connected to yourself. Therapy is a place to explore your roots (the experiences, relationships, beliefs, expectations, and environments that have shaped you) while creating room to bloom into the person you’re becoming. You don’t have to choose between honoring where you come from and creating something different for yourself. You can be rooted and still grow!
